tonight, novocain or not, carl thanks. as republicans continue to try to overturn the new law, the president celebrated it at a place that holds special meaning for the cause. major garrett explains. the president: three years ago i came here to this campus to make a promise. reporter: president obama merged celebration and nostalgia in iowa city today reaching back to his campaign appearance that launched his first big domestic policy initiative, universal health care. my plan begins by covering every american. reporter: candidate obama ran into the realities of governing. the law he signs this week falls short of some of those promises. the new law leaves 20 flee million and undock 23 million undocumented workers without coverage. the original plan carried a 10
opposition to health care or just going to grow and grow. i think that s an open question right now. bret: there is a possibility it could go the other way that we find things that the american people find things that they don t like. yeah. it s just unclear right now. i mean, there is no doubt that the president got a little bump. and it just happened a couple days ago. but i do think he has a big job. because, and it s going to be hard, because a lot of the things that people want don t go into effect right away. a lot of things people don t want do go into effect right away. he is going to have to explain why you are going to have to wait for a couple years to get coverage for everybody. but, on the other hand, there are some things like having your kids on until they are 26, which actually means a whole lot to a lot of people. bret: fred, the appeal effort and what republicans are doing and saying right now in the face of this white house effort to sell it. just as a note m
