Updated: 6:50 PM EDT Apr 5, 2021 Allen Devlin Longtime Williamston fire Chief Steve Ellison passed away suddenly on Thursday, shocking his co-workers and family. Ellison served as a firefighter for the last 40 years, spending 30 of those years with the Williamston Volunteer Fire Department and the last 27 as the fire chief. He dedicated his life to the Williamston Fire Department, said Interim-fire Chief Tim Heatherly. His legacy will always be here and we appreciate him for what he’s done for us here at the Williamston Fire Department. Ellison was laid to rest Saturday following a funeral procession through Williamston; his casket carried on the first and oldest Williamston Fire Department Fire Truck, escorted by his family and closest friends to Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. My daddy was somebody who was always there, said Ellison s daughter and co-Williamston firefighter Julia Nichols. My daddy was someone who taught me that it didn’t matter wha
Over the past year, COVID-19 claimed the lives of at least 6,883 Mississippians, including 1,236 Northeast Mississippi residents. Every one of those individuals had a job, a family, a purpose. Each had a story.
The Daily Journal COVID-19 Memorial Project was created to share the stories of those in our region who have died from coronavirus. Readers from across the Daily Journalâs 16-county coverage area submitted photographs and memories of their loved ones to be published as part of this project. These 20 individuals represent a tiny fraction of those weâve lost to COVID-19 in Northeast Mississippi.
We proudly share their stories with the communities they called home.
