lot of people to understand. this system is permissive of white violence. it tries to find a way to empathize and excuse white violence and kyle rittenhouse is just the latest beneficiary of that bias in the justice system. the one right before him was the cop who shot jacob blake seven times in the back, faced no consequences, was not charged either at the state or federal level. and i think that is a good point. katie, you know, i get that there are a lot of people out there, this does not reflect their life experience and they are tired of hearing about white supremacy. but i say try living with it. when you see tamir rice get gunned down over a toy gun and a 17-year-old young man who law enforcement saw him walking with an ar-15, judge looked at him like this was his grand kid that there was some sort of familiarity there.
he is runs at a dem in a red state. hasn t happened in 30 years. is the answer does he need to appeal to whatever these mystical swing state independent swing voters are or is it a game am mid the voter suppression in texas? what is the path to victory? great to see you. and it is the latter. we have to double down. you know, the reason that they wanted to move voter suppression bills through the state of texas is because they saw the writing on the wall. texas is a majority/minority state. there is no reason that we are still putting white supremacists in office to be perfectly honest. so only way that that could happen is that they suppressed the vote. so we also have to look at those people who have been disconnected because who one has talked to they will. texas has more african-americans than any other state but how much outreach is normally done
the voting legislation. it only happens if we get a carveout for the filibuster. so you have to lean on your senators. if you live in delawar call chris coons. if you live in any state, you need to be calling your senators. tell them that you want a filibuster carveout. and that we need this bill to happen. so you have to do that. but then you have to work at the state and local level. and that is where things have been happening particularly around policing reform. you re right, we didn t get the george floyd and poliing act and it is disappointing. but if you go on the ldf website, you will find an entire web page that shows all of the state and local practices that have been happening that have been moving things forward, places where qualified immunity have been modified or eliminated, polices where police departments have been removed from doing mental health crisis calls. there are changes happening at the state and local level.
happening with our voting rights in this country. yet state after state is decimateing our access to the ballot box. that s no winning recipe for 2022, and it certainly isn t one for 2024h so whatever we want to say about retail politics, we have a democracy that s in crisis, and what we can t afford is to have avis president who appears to be sidelined. i know that kamala laughed that off in the skbruchlt but the reality of it is there are a number of people who talk about this all the time. she has not been visible enough. we need to see her more. we need to see the strategy, the strategic mind that she has working. we saw that working in the senate. we know the poliing bill was her bill. these are the kindsof things that need to be moving, in addition to the infrastructure package, in addition to build back better, and i still don t for the life of me understand what that means. allof that said, ashley s de par tour is a devastating blow to the administration and certainly to kamala
housing stairwell who was convicted of manslaughter but given no prison sentence. so we had to illuminate these issues. and so if you look at where we are today, everyone know what is voter suppression is. everyone knows that police violence is real, people saw it last year during the george floyd protests, white people were victimized by police violence during those protests. ahmaud arbery, his killers are on trial. and the fact that we know who they are is because of the activism of his mother and others in that state. and we have to recognize that we are in a different position of power. we have surfaced what was underneath the surface. we have brought it up as martin luther king junior used to say, you have to surface the tension. we didn t create it, but we brought what was underneath the surface up to the top. and so it is ugly. it doesn t feel good.
