Two more to appear in court for Upington cash-in-transit heist

───   12:02 Mon, 12 Apr 2021 Two more suspects are expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the cash-in-transit heist that took place in Upington last Tuesday. The robbery took place at the Kalahari Mall where five men allegedly robbed two security guards when they were loading money into an ATM. Police say about R4,5 million was taken during the incident. The Hawks arrested the second suspect on Friday and a joint operation by the agency and crime intelligence led to the arrest of a third suspect on Saturday in the Free State. An undisclosed amount of money was also recovered. The Hawks say investigations are ongoing and further arrests are imminent.

───   05:27 Tue, 06 Apr 2021 Seven provinces recorded zero Covid-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the health department said on Monday evening. Four deaths were recorded in Gauteng and four in the Free State. A total of 452 new cases were also recorded from 11 091 tests conducted. To date South Africa has a total of 1 552 416 cases. South Africa’s death toll now stands at 52 995. The highest number of deaths have been recorded in the Western Cape with 11 472 followed closely by the Western Cape of 11 363. South Africa’s recovery rate sits at 95 percent with almost 10 million people have been tested in the past year. Meanwhile, close to 270 000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated.
