with no major breakthroughs. on saturday we heard from president biden in japan, who expressed optimism about potentially clutching a deal there. he said he was not at all concerned about the state of negotiations. of course, on friday we saw them hit a pause there where negotiators left the room, saying no progress was being made. later in the day sources said they had a candid conversation, but still left for the day with no deal and no expectation of when they would be returning. president biden phrased it as kind of the natural ebb and flow of negotiations like this. take a listen. it comes in stages. what happens is the first meetings weren t all that productive, the second ones were, the third one was. then what happens is the carriers go back to the principals and say this is what we re thinking about and then people put down new claims.
