arlette, good to see you. we know the president is speaking with the national security team. one, what do we know about that conversation and what specifically are we focusing on? and two, any response from the white house regarding the response that they heard when they offered to help president zelenskyy evacuate? reporter: well, christi, the white house has not commented yet on that report that ukrainian president zelenskyy turned down a u.s. offer to evacuate the capital of kyiv. of course, the white house has been asked repeatedly about whether they are concerned about his safety. and they have ultimately said they remain in contact with him. earlier in the week, we had reported that the u.s. felt it would be up to zelenskyy to make that decision about his safety. and whether he were to evacuate at the time. but we will see if the white house will have anything further to offer over the course of the day. now, president biden will be waking up at his home here in wilmington, del

protect. it s been called in the past for natural disasters, the olympics, first time. but this was the first time in ukraine, they ve been called to protect the eastern flanked nato countries. the concern is not necessarily that putin is going to go farther west and try to attack a nato country. but the concern is that an escalation can happen and things could spiral out of control very quickly. so that is something they re trying to prevent here. we re setting up deconflict mechanisms with russia. all in an effort to prevent this from spilling into those countries like lithuania, latvia, estonia and poland. and president biden said this is not going to result in u.s. or nato forces sent into ukraine. it s simply for deterrence and defense. we appreciate it so much. let s go cnn s white house correspondent arlette saenz.
