Around 40 people begin a bicycle ride celebrating New River Bikeâs 30th anniversary in front of the shop in Fayetteville in 2019. The shop, which first opened in 1989 under the name Ridge Riders, has been the staple of the ever growing mountain bike community in the New River Gorge. The biking community continues to grow in Fayetteville, and the town early this year received national recognition with an Honorable Mention as a Bicycle Friendly Community. This recognition is awarded by the League of American Bicyclists through a rigorous grading process that examines the âFive Esâ of bicycling: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement and Evaluation & Planning.
