SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â Coronado Unified School District s board voted unanimously to appeal the California Interscholastic Federation s ruling that stripped Coronado High of its high school boys basketball championship over tortillas being thrown after the team s win against Orange Glen High.

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) The California Interscholastic Federation has concluded its investigation into an incident in which supporters of the Coronado High School boys basketball team threw tortillas at the visiting team from Orange Glen High School.
In a news release sent to ABC 10News, the CIF said it issued sanctions against the school. In this instance, there is no doubt the act of throwing tortillas at a predominately Latino team is unacceptable and warrants sanctions,â the federation concluded.

In addition to being stripped of its Division 4-A Regional Championship title, Coronado High was placed on probation through the 2023-24 school year and won t be allowed to host any sectional, regional or state postseason basketball games through the 2022-23 school year.
