The police official delegated to engage with former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter was a no-show at the meeting with Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts on Wednesday.
SAPS boss Lt-Gen. Fannie Masemola has told Scopa that a senior official probing corruption at Eskom could not attend the meeting with MPs because he feared for his life.
While MPs condemned Burger’s absence without notice, they were divided on the reasons for his not appearing, with some questioning how a police officer could be so scared while others understood his fears as indicative of the magnitude of risks associated with investigating Eskom-related corruption.
