Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday presented three bills in the Lok Sabha, aiming to replace the British-era laws of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) of 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872. These bills have been titled as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bhartiya Sakshya Bill .
The purpose of the three new bills that seek to replace the Indian Penal Code (1860), Criminal Procedure Code (1898) and Indian Evidence Act is not to punish but to give justice, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday.
