Gadkari says, 'Won't make six-airbag rule for cars mandatory'

Six airbags won't be mandatory in cars: Nitin Gadkari

The Indian government will not make it mandatory for automakers to include six airbags in passenger vehicles, said Nitin Gadkari, Union minister for road transport & highways. Instead, customers will be able to assess crash safety based on star ratings under India s first car-safety rating program. The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme aims to improve the safety standards of cars produced in India, which has the highest number of road fatalities in the world.
