Amid growing protests and increasing violence in Myanmar due to a military coup, Assam police last Thursday made a failed attempt to repatriate a 15-year-old Rohingya refugee into the neighbouring country.
She was taken to Moreh, a village on the Myanmar border in Manipur, to hand her over to border forces of India’s strife-torn neighbor. But, the gate that marks the border between the two countries never opened.

SILCHAR: Deputy commissioner (Cachar) Keerthi Jalli said the Election Commission will decide on the possibility of re-poll in Sonai constituency.
At least three persons were injured, one critically, after they were shot allegedly by Assam deputy speaker Aminul Haque Laskar’s personal security officer in the Dhanehari locality of Sonai constituency. Laskar is the BJP candidate from the constituency. Locals confined Laskar inside the polling booth for five hours till senior police officials rescue him.
Talking to the media, Jalli said, more than 70% of the votes had been cast. So it is not clear if there will be a re-poll.

SILCHAR: At least three persons were injured in firing by the bodyguards of Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar on Thursday after clashes broke out between supporters of BJP and AIUDF.
Cachar district Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli confirmed an incident and said the administration is waiting for a detailed report from the polling station at 463 Madhya Dhanehori LP School of Sonai constituency.
