Political pundits are of the view that the chances are that these emerging religiopolitical groups could shake hands ahead of SGPC elections to give a united fight against SAD(B).
Punjab politics: Shiromani Akali Dal-Badal as well as SGPC have both taken up the Sikh prisoners issue and for the purpose SAD (B) has even begun holding district wise meetings in Punjab. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the issue of the release of Sikh prisoners was of immense importance for the Sikh community.
The SGPC has 175 elected members while 15 are co-opted including five Jathedars of Takht’s making general house of a total of 190 members. Last elections of the Sikh body were held in 2011, wherein SAD (B) had won the majority seats and had a total of 182 members including elected and nominated.
