In 2017, anthropologist Lizbeth Lauderback was able to dig out the tiny bits of organic matter wedged into the stone grinding tools used by the Native Americans near Escalante. The organic bits proved to be potato starches. The stone tools were 10,000 years old.
The Festival of Lights kicked off the season on Nov. 6 in the Robinson Building with the annual Candlelight Dinner and silent auction which are a fundraiser for the event.
Preston city’s annual Festival of Lights is slated for next month, and the festival committee has requested reservations for the Candlelight dinner by Friday, Oct. 15.
