Not from the virus, but of loneliness.
The 77-year-old widow says that months of at-home isolation with almost no contact except from her Lab-mix, Coco left her on the verge of ending her life.
“If I didn’t have my faith, I think I would have committed suicide. Really,” she says. “I felt like I was in jail.
“I just did not want to go on that way, just sitting alone, eating alone, day after day.”
Pierce has rebounded, in part by finding alternate methods of connectivity. But even after a year, she still struggles to navigate the pandemic, which has hit her age demographic particularly hard.
