The burning building is located next to Government Publication on East Bay Street in the open parking lot adjacent to the bus terminal.
The blaze created huge billows of smoke from the historic building fully engulfed.
Panicky onlookers watched in distress as the blaze grew and grew following a slow response time by the fire department, which is just up the road on East Hill Street.
The building we can recall was owned by the late

NIGEL Forbes
NIGEL Forbes improved on a pair of Bahamas National and Bahamas Open records as he took the spotlight at the Bahamas Swimming Federation’s Year-Ending Swim Meet over the weekend.
The meet was held at the Betty Kelly Kenning Swim Complex as swimmers finally got back into the pool to compete for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic broke in March.
Forbes dropped his boys’ 13-14 100 metre butterfly time from 57.28 that he posted at the UANA Swimming Cup on February 21 to 56.92 on Saturday.
In the process, the Grand Bahamian representing the YMCA WaveRunners Swim Club erased the Bahamas Open record of 57.81 that Ian Pinder established on June 22, 2017 as well.
