An adaptive recreation program closed after the city of Abilene announced budget cuts last year could be getting a new lease on life.
A $1-a-year lease agreement between the city and Betty Hardwick Center will be voted on Thursday by the Abilene City Council at its regular meeting.
An agreement would allow the center to lease the Adaptive Recreation building at Rose Park.
Betty Hardwick Center is the mental health and intellectual and developmental disability entity for Callahan, Jones, Shackelford, Stephens and Taylor counties.
Jenny Goode, Betty Hardwick s chief executive officer, said that when the city passed a suite of possible budget cuts in December, including ending its adaptive recreation program, city officials indicated interest in a nonprofit taking charge.
