one of the more eye-catching statistics things from out by sutter is that full-time nurses earn an average of $136,000 per year. what we have done is looking at their salaries, taken the w- 2, the actual money that we pay to the nurses, and we divided by the number of hours worked which comes out to $65 per hour. impressive but even summer in its only a small percentage of their nurses worked full time and make that kind of money. most work three or four days per week. we would like mourners is to work full time. they re in lies the rub. it is a physically and emotionally stressful job. so you want to be able to have time off to rest, to shore yourself up. they also want to eliminate six days, instead they want to give nurses a chance to earn up to 40 paid days off pre year. and allow them to use that for either sick time or holidays or vacation time. that is eight weeks of paid time off. again impressive but compared to the present contract. they stand to

pelley: good evening. hurricane irene is moving in and people along the east coast are moving out. the first watches and warnings went up today for what could be the most powerful hurricane to hit the east coast in seven years. irene roared across the bahamas today, a category three with winds of 115 miles an hour. the capital, nassau, was largely spared, but major damage is reported in other parts of the island chain. at last report, irene was about 600 miles south of cape hatteras, north carolina, moving toward the north/northwest at 14 miles an hour. hurricane watches and warnings are up from north carolina to new jersey with landfall expected in north carolina on saturday. we have a team of correspondents posted throughout the hurricane zone. first, cbs news hurricane consultant david bernard in miami. david, what is the latest on the track and the intensity? well, no change at all today, scott. this storm is steady. it is still a major hurricane and, in fact, the lat
