The Fix-A-Pet organization in Bedford County aims to lessen the tragedies of cats and dogs left un-spayed or un-neutered, and to alleviate the cost burden of the procedures to âfixâ these domesticated and feral pets.
The group is a 501c3 organization operating with two board members, according to president Ruth Mook, 94, along with her daughter Ellen Loughney, the secretary/treasurer. Several âgood and kindâ volunteers keep everything running smoothly, Mook said Monday, with fundraising efforts, cat-trapping for the âtrap, neuter, releaseâ program, transporting for the cat clinic, managing donations, and allocating funds to those in need of their help.
The organization knows tragedy all too well â theyâve suffered serious losses themselves over the last few years, and yet have still been able to overcome the obstacles to continue providing spay and neuter services across the county.
