Marshall Criser III on Sunday questioning whether a letter from the president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges led to Education Commissioner
Richard Corcoran being eliminated from contention.
As Education Commissioner, Corcoran holds a seat on the SUS Board of Governors, which must approve the eventual pick for FSU President.
The man who organized the drive for the Florida Lottery has died at the age of 100.
Creating the lottery was just one of many major accomplishments over a 36-year career in public service.
Ralph Turlington was already a tenured professor at the University of Florida with an MBA from Harvard when he ran for the Florida Legislature in 1950.
“Our pay was ten dollars a day when we were in session,” said Turlington in a 2006 interview.
He spent the next 36 years shaping Florida government.
“He brought the best out in people. He brought the best out in legislation,” said former Turlington aide Frank Mirabella.

Corcoran
applied for the job earlier this week and is one of nearly two dozen applicants seeking the position currently held by
John Thrasher, who announced his retirement in September.
Letters obtained by Florida Politics show Corcoran has broad support among those he served alongside during his time in the Legislature, which culminated in a term as House Speaker for the 2017 and 2018 Legislative Sessions. He has also garnered support from alumni, school superintendents and others.
