A host of projects to improve boating across Victoria will receive funding in the 2020-21 round of grants as part of the Boating Safety and Facilities Program (BSFP).
The grants program is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s unprecedented $47.2 million investment to improve recreational boating in Victoria, which includes Better Boating Victoria (BBV) making it free to park and launch at Victorian boat ramps and establishing the Better Boating Fund.
This year’s round of BSFP grants has allocated almost $1.9 million to 33 projects across the categories of boating infrastructure, search and rescue and aids to navigation.
BBV launched the program in February with grant applications open for a period of six weeks to committees of management, government agencies, local water authorities, waterway managers and dedicated search and rescue groups.
Community consultation has begun on plans to improve on-water access to the Maribyrnong River by building the river's first public recreational boat ramp.

Planning work has started on improvements to three key Geelong boat ramps to boost capacity and make getting out on the water easier for boaters.
Boating Victoria (BBV) commissioned concept designs for upgrades to the Limeburners, Kirk Point and Avalon Beach boat ramps as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s unprecedented investment to improve boating in Victoria.
In addition to making ramps free, establishing the Better Boating Fund and developing Victoria’s first Recreational Boating Strategy, works are being undertaken to increase capacity at three ramps in the greater Geelong region, which has one of the highest vessel ownership rates in Victoria.

THE state government is being urged to hurry up its takeover of managing Mornington Peninsula’s boat launching ramps.
It is believed the state of the boat ramps was high on the agenda during a recent meeting between Fishing and Boating Minister Melissa Horne and shire CEO John Baker.
In the lead-up to the 2018 election the state government promised to “embark on the biggest reforms to the way that boating infrastructure is managed that Victoria has ever seen [by] fixing boat ramps, abolishing boat ramp parking and launching fees, and reforming boat ramp management in Port Phillip and Western Port”.
