New Chicken Wing Craze Hits Alabama, is it Really Worth $100?

Daytona Beach documentary shines light on inner city life in Midtown

DAYTONA BEACH  A new documentary chronicling life in Daytona Beach opens with familiar scenes of the stunning shoreline and Daytona International Speedway. Seconds later, it shifts to the streets of Midtown, far away from the tourists and million-dollar beach houses and condos that line the shoreline from Ormond Beach to Ponce Inlet.  Daytona native Jared Thompson filmed a documentary highlighting the historic majority-Black neighborhood in hopes of giving a voice to the voiceless in his community.  Thompson created  Daytona Beach: The other side of the bridge,  which was released at the Cobb Daytona Luxury Theatres in December, through his media company 100,000 Arts Productions. The film was released online via YouTube on Jan. 1 and has reached more than 45,000 views.

Daytona s Bethune Grill known for their honey wings and family feel

DAYTONA BEACH Shannon Hines, Rosemary Jenkins and Karen Hankerson attribute the success of Bethune Grill to their mother’s legacy, family spirit and their famous honey wing sauce.  “We’re a close-knit family,” said Hines, 45, who owns the restaurant managed by his two sisters. “Working together and continuing our mother’s legacy is important to us.” Hines said the best part of owning and operating the restaurant, located at 731 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd., is working with his family.  “Expanding, franchising and taking the wing sauce mainstream are next on our list,” said Hines. “We currently sell the sauce here in the restaurant and online.”
