An Ottawa police officer shot a sword-carrying 28-year-old man on Montreal Road early Sunday, prompting a review by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit.
Witnesses said a man holding a sword or machete-like blade approached the Petro-Canada station on the corner of Ogilvie Road just after 3 a.m. Though it is a 24-hour operation, the doors are locked after 11 p.m. and he was unable to enter the convenience store attached to the gas service.

The SIU says officers found the man and at some point during what they re only caling an interaction with him, one officer fired at the man. The 28-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
