An Alton, Illinois couple is discovering something long-buried underneath their home a 19th century tunnel.
When Gary and Beth Machens went to repair a section of their of their sidewalk, they discovered an entryway into the tunnel!
Historians estimate the tunnel, which is about nine-feet-high and 60-feet deep, was created in 1840 50 years before the house was built. Machens said he hopes to preserve the tunnel and give tours one day.
