Donald Ray ‘Donnie’ Mallard WILMINGTON Donald Ray “Donnie” Mallard, 84, peacefully passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at his home of 81 years. He was the loving husband of Carolyn (Clemmons) Mallard. Donnie was born Nov. 16, 1936, in Wilmington, the son of the late Sanders “Buddy” Mallard and Tera Mae Mallard. Donnie overcame many of life’s early challenges as a premature baby, and then, at age 6, he was struck by a car. He was told he wouldn’t walk or talk ever again, but Donnie remained persistent and overcame. He was a graduate of New Hanover High. He was a respected member of Southside Baptist Church since the age of 19. In 1957, Donnie gave his life to Christ and was baptized. Donnie, his mother and little sister Sandy were all faithful members of Southside. Donnie found his love and happiness when he met Carolyn at Southside. He adored her so much.
