About 12 smallcap stocks have gained over 25%, with Alok Industries being the topper with a 52% surge. It was followed by Sun Pharma Advanced Research, Inox Green Energy Services and Waaree Renewable Tech.
Of the 46 stocks, about 29 smallcap stocks scaled fresh 52-week highs in the last week. Some of the popular names in the smallcap list are SpiceJet, Latent View Analytics, SeQuent Scientific, Morepen Laboratories, Bliss GVS Pharma, SML Isuzu, Anand Rathi Wealth, Edelweiss Financial Services, Prataap Snacks, and 63 Moons Technologies.
The index has jumped 1,219 points, or 9%, since October 26 against the 2.8% gains in the Sensex and the 3.1% advance in the Nifty. Six stocks contributed 469 points, or 38%, of the 1,219-point upside in the index. These included Suzlon Energy, BSE, CDSL, Global Health, MCX and Piramal Pharma. Three stocks - Suzlon Energy, BSE and CDSL - contributed 323 points, or close to 27%, of the up-move in the Small-cap index.
Boasting at least 33% return this year, Mahindra Manulife Small Cap Fund, Franklin India Smaller Cos Fund, Bandhan Emerging Businesses Fund, Union Small Cap Fund and Nippon India Small Cap Fund top the list of best-performing funds.
Lloyds Engineering was the top gainer in the smallcap pack with nearly 44.54% return, followed by Digispice Technologies (40.04%), MPS (37.8%), and Optiemus Infracom (28.7%). About 7 stocks including Sanghi Industries, Jai Balaji Industries, and HCL Infosystems have offered returns over 25% during the week.
