UAB Health System to purchase Medical West Hospital site as part of $51 million deal

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System will buy the existing Medical West Hospital campus in Bessemer as part of a $51.25-million deal meant to help the affiliated hospital secure a federal loan to construct a new hospital in McCalla.
The UA System board of trustees formally approved the deal for the existing 9.7-acre hospital campus in Bessemer Friday morning. The Medical West Hospital Authority is an affiliate of the UAB Health System.
Trustee James Wilson III commended the team working on the project Thursday.
