Amazon, state officials and unions impose information blackout after Bessemer, Alabama worker’s death
A conspiracy of silence surrounds the May 6 death of an Amazon employee at the BHM1 fulfillment center in Bessemer, Alabama, a week after the story broke. The worker, whose name has not been revealed to the public, reportedly died last Thursday after suffering a “personal medical incident.” The worker was reportedly found unconscious in the bathroom of the BHM1 warehouse and before being transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Bloomberg first reported the news and said the worker collapsed at the facility, citing unnamed sources.

Grace Klein Community donated $2.1 million in food in Alabama in 2020, plans to help more this year

More than 10 years ago, Jenny Waltman and her husband, Jason, saw integral needs in their Avondale neighborhood and wanted to help. That desire led the couple to found Grace Klein Community, a Birmingham-area nonprofit that last year donated more than $2.1 million in groceries to 25,000 households.

BESSEMER A 16-year-old boy was found inside a home that was on fire on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020. The boy was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates identified the teen as Kayvion Webster, of Bessemer.
Bessemer Fire and Rescue found Webster’s family outside of the house but Webster was still inside. Fire personnel went into the house around 2:55 a.m. and discovered him still inside. They took him to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:44 p.m.
The Bessemer Fire Department and the Bessemer Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
