Beryl Gerald turns 100
Beryl ‘Tantie’ Gerald of Glen is this country’s latest inductee to the exclusive Centurion club, having turned 100 on May 10.
‘Tantie’ was born in the Parish of St Mary in Jamaica, on May 10, 1921. She moved to the capital Kingston where she resided until, like so many West Indians did in the early 1960s, she immigrated in 1960 to England, UK.
‘Tantie’ recalled doing many different jobs in the early years of her time in England, among these being one at a corned beef factory.
She eventually found more stable employment at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, known for assisting children from all around the world, who had complicated medical conditions.
