Chatham County police are investigating an alleged sexual assault at the Berwick Kroger.
Police responded at the Kroger grocery store on Ogeechee Road in the Berwick area at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after the victim, an adult woman, said she was attacked and sexually assaulted in the Kroger restroom by a stranger, according to a statement from CCPD.
She was transported to an area hospital and is receiving services from the Rape Crisis Center.
Police have charged 25-year-old Gregory Hathorne with felony rape, felony kidnapping and misdemeanor battery. He is being held at the Chatham County Detention Center.
During a Wednesday afternoon press conference, CCPD Chief Jeff Hadley said Hathorne has very little history here in Savannah.
