The CoRE Legacy fund is supported by income received from the sale of the community wind turbine on the northern outskirts of Berwick.
Since starting in 2015, the scheme has awarded over £127,000 to community groups, charities and sports clubs throughout the North East, saving them money, but also reducing their carbon footprint through the use of renewable energy technologies and energy conservation.
Berwick Bowling Club, which was awarded £5,000 in October 2019 for the installation of solar panels on their clubhouse, is delighted with the result having seen a £400 reduction in electricity costs in the first year. The money saved has allowed them to make other improvements to the facilities, which wouldn’t otherwise have been possible.
