Santander Asset Management has broadened its alternative investment expertise with its first trade finance fund, Citywire Americas reports. The Luxembourg-domiciled Santander Trade Finance Real Economy fund I will be seeded with €25m from Banco Santander and is aimed at institutional investors such as pension funds, insurers and sovereign wealth funds. Santander said the new fund is designed to offer an alternative to the current low-interest-rate and low-return environment, while offering a diversifier for existing portfolios. The portfolio will invest across Europe, Asia and the US, with around 350 company positions, which have losses capped at 10%. The average credit rating of each company will be approximately BBB+, while the fund will offer weekly exit windows.
