Formerly of WPD, Linda Thompson seeks to improve diversity in new job

Earlier this year, Linda Thompson walked into what must ve been a very tough room to enter: a gathering of area mothers who d lost their children to gun violence. Thompson wasn t there as a mother who d lost a child, but as a representative of the Wilmington Police Department. Before taking a new job this past summer, Thompson had worked for the WPD for 25 years, serving as both head public information officer and, more recently, as both a PIO and a diversity and inclusion officer. She wasn t expecting it, but I knew just about every face in that room. I had to take a deep breath, Thompson said. The women I saw, and there were probably 15 to 20 people in the room, all of their children had been killed by gun violence. The sad part was, I remembered the incidents.”
