Guerline Alcy Announces her Candidacy for Councilor At-Large – Everett Independent

Long-time City Hall worker and community leader Guerline Alcy announced this week she will run for at-large City Council in the coming Municipal Election. Alcy is well-known to many residents of Everett as one of the first people seen as they walk in the door of City Hall – working in constituent services and other outward facing areas. She is also active in the Haitian American community and Everett non-profits, as well as a well-known advocate of the arts. As a long-time resident of Everett, Alcy said she has spent years fighting for the wellbeing of homeless teens, the elderly and anyone she comes in contact with that requires help in the city.

Steinberg Pulls Nomination Papers for School Committee – Everett Independent

Everett’s Cady Steinberg got the bug to run for School Committee at least two years ago after attending a School Committee meeting, a meeting where she went to defend her sister-in-law – a teacher in the Everett Schools – but was told she couldn’t speak publicly. That ignited a spark in the Everett Public Schools product, who now is the administrator for the Boston University History Department, that finally grew into a real run for the Ward 2 School Committee seat this year. “This is really two years in the making,” she said. “I thought about it two years ago. The reason I didn’t is because of what a lot of women feel and that’s the imposture syndrome.”

Nomination Papers Unlock Flurry of Candidates, Changes – Everett Independent

All three candidates for mayor have pulled Nomination Papers this week – as Papers officially became available on Monday morning – and some surprises have already emerged, such as Councilor Michael McLaughlin announcing he won’t run for re-election to the Ward 6 seat and is currently keeping his options open. Other immediate surprises – as of Tuesday at noon – were School Committeeman Allen Panarese filing for Councilor at-Large; At-Large Councilor Wayne Matewsky filing for Ward 1 Councilor; Council Clerk Mike Mangan filing for Ward 4 School Committee; and Bernie D’Onofrio re-entering public life in running for Ward 6 School Committee. “Monday was a very busy day,” said City Clerk Sergio Cornelio. “It was a steady flow all day of candidates and incumbents coming in to get their Papers. I’d rather have them in and get their Papers if they are running so we have time to go through the certification process.”
