Elmer Emil Block was born December 21, 1934, to Ben and Amanda Block in Lewiston, MN. He was raised in Utica, MN, and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1953. Following graduation, he joined the Air Force where he served for four years. After leaving the Air Force, he married JoAnn Krenzke on September 26, 1959, and settled in Rochester, MN. He built a career at IBM as a talented designer and machinist in the development lab. He retired in 1991 but he wasn’t done yet!

Re: “Texas power grid cries out for vast overhaul,” Metro, Wednesday:
The strong words being leveled at CPS Energy are misdirected. County Judge Nelson Wolff said CPS had enough power to supply San Antonio during the cold weather crisis but was required to divert some of that power to the Texas grid to prevent it from crashing.
So, the harsh criticism should be directed at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas and state leaders who are in a position to change how the grid operates. If we don’t look at it correctly, we won’t get any relief. Finger-pointing doesn’t bring results.
