Over 5,000 new contact tracers to be hired, deployed in NCR

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 2) Thousands of new contact tracers will be hired and deployed in the National Capital Region starting this month,
The Departments of the Interior and Local Government, Labor and Employment and the Metro Manila Development Authority signed an agreement on Saturday for the hiring, training, and deployment of some 5,754 contact tracers for three months starting May.
Last month, Interior Undersecretary Bernardo Florece said they would hire new 4,754 contract tracers; the agreement signed on May 1 exceeds this by 1,000.
A statement from the DILG Sunday said 13,304 people have applied for the available positions so far and 2,696 have been assessed/qualified.

In a news briefing, DILG Undersecretary Bernardo Florece Jr. said the StaySafe.Ph app is currently one of the most effective technical solutions for a more efficient contact tracing system in the country.
Managed by the DILG, he said StaySafe.Ph is composed of two parts: the active contact-tracing and the passive contact-tracing.
The active contact tracing, according to Florece, is far more important as is geared towards a “very proactive data collection’’ which is very valuable with the use of the StaySafe.Ph application while the passive contact tracing relies on surveys and health declarations.

Bello, in a radio interview on Saturday, April 17, said local government units (LGUs) that need additional contract tracers for their anti-coronavirus disease (COVID-19) efforts may start recruiting them under the agency’s TUPAD program.
The application and processing of contact tracer applicants from the National Capital Region (NCR) under TUPAD started on Saturday. It will run until April 22.
