Over 5,000 new contact tracers to be hired, deployed in NCR enablePagination: false (FILE PHOTO) Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 2)  Thousands of new contact tracers will be hired and deployed in the National Capital Region starting this month, The Departments of the Interior and Local Government, Labor and Employment and the Metro Manila Development Authority signed an agreement on Saturday for the hiring, training, and deployment of some 5,754 contact tracers for three months starting May. Last month, Interior Undersecretary Bernardo Florece said they would hire new 4,754 contract tracers; the agreement signed on May 1 exceeds this by 1,000. A statement from the DILG Sunday said 13,304 people have applied for the available positions so far and 2,696 have been assessed/qualified.

(Photo by Jam STA ROSA / AFP) In a news briefing, DILG Undersecretary Bernardo Florece Jr. said the StaySafe.Ph app is currently one of the most effective technical solutions for a more efficient contact tracing system in the country. Managed by the DILG, he said StaySafe.Ph is composed of two parts: the active contact-tracing and the passive contact-tracing. The active contact tracing, according to Florece, is far more important as is geared towards a “very proactive data collection’’ which is very valuable with the use of the StaySafe.Ph application while the passive contact tracing relies on surveys and health declarations.
