Bernard Okumagba to head reconstituted NDDC Board
The Nigerian government has reportedly constituted a new board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The members of the newly constituted board have been appointed into various offices in a bid to douse the threats and complaints from sons and daughters of the Niger Delta region.
The new board members amongst others include; Bernard Okumagba from Delta State as Chairman of the Board, Samuel Nduku from Bayelsa State as Managing Director, Effiong Okon Akwa who is the Sole Administrator as Executive Director Finance and Administration.
There has been tension between the Nigerian government, represented by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, headed by Godswill Akpabio and foremost voices in the region, including ex-agitators. Just recently, Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) threatened the Nigerian government to constitute a new board or risk the return to hostilities in the region.

Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC):
There is no place around the world where you do not have the third force, even in the media, it is there. Way back in 2005, what we had was HOSCON (Host Communities of Nigeria). The HOSCON is like a youth arm of the Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON). The founder of TROMPCON, Chief Wellington Okrika, is also the founder of HOSCON. As humans, we like turning things the way they will be of benefit to us. Chief Okrika was appo

ST CYNDAC, weekend, disagreed over South-South governors’ recent call on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop further disbursements of funds to the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, until the substantive governing board is inaugurated.
HM Ayemi-Botu, who claimed NDDC funds were going to acolytes and stooges of the minister, said: “Suffice to say it is coming most appropriately since the minister had already assured stakeholders in January 6, 2021 that the board will be inaugurated in April 2021 at the completion of the forensic audit that has overstayed its welcome.”

Akpabio’s style and tactics: SINCE he was sworn-in August 2019 as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Godswill Akpabio, many would confess, has the ears of his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, the manner he secures presidential imprimatur for snooping decisions on the Niger-Delta Development Commission, NDDC, an interventionist agency under the supervision of his ministry.
In some way, he flings the high-level connection brazenly at people. And the problem numerous stakeholders of the region have with him is that the running of NDDC begins and ends on his table, whether his actions are permissible or otherwise. On this account, quite a number have, if truth be told, given up on NDDC, concluding it was the minister’s vineyard.
