yes. he wasn t prepared properly in my view, and he certainly hurt himself. subway gunman shop, and a jury will decide if he will have to pay for it. you just work on instinct. you just start firing. you just sweep right across. what did darryl do to bernard? nothing, ever. what did bernard goetz do? the jury decided goetz was liable for 43 million dollars in damages and awarded darrell 18 million for pain and suffering and 25 million for punitive charges we all realized that mr. goetz can t possibly pay the entire judgment, but he s going to have to work for a living
us, everybody was electrified. the verdict may have legally justified goetz actions but it had implications for the city. many speculated the incident was racially charged. they saw the verdict as a setback for race relations in new york. we think it s wrong that we are glorifying, and honoring the wrong type of activity. people look at this case and our verdict as being a decision being made about their lives and their issues in our city with it was just about this case. goetz was sentenced to one year in jail without probation. this case is more about the deterioration of society than it is about me.
