Edison mayor to focus on school overcrowding, opioid issues in the community during 2021 ×
EDISON – A focus on continuing to address overcrowding issues with the Edison Public Schools and helping combat opioid problems in the community are at the forefront as Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey looks to move the township forward in 2021.
He said strategic partnerships and teamwork are important to achieve the focal points, which have already begun.
Lankey addressed the Edison Chamber of Commerce in the 30th State of the Township Address at the Pines Manor on Feb. 25.
He said a committee has been set up with himself, members of Edison Board of Education, Schools Superintendent Bernard Bragen and members of the Township Council to try to find a solution to the overcrowding issues with the Edison Public Schools.
Edison school, town officials plea for equal distribution of COVID-19 vaccine
EDISON – School and township officials have plans at the ready to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.
“At this point my job is to provide the resources,” said Andy Toth, deputy fire chief and office of emergency management coordinator. “We have refrigerators and freezers for the vaccine. We have plans in place all ready to go … we are just missing the vaccine.”
Toth joined Schools Superintendent Bernard Bragen, Township Councilman Joseph Coyle, and members of the Board of Education including Board President Jerry Shi, Board Vice President Mohin Patel, Board member Virginia White and Board member Biral Patel at a press conference to plea for equal distribution of the vaccine on Feb. 23.

EDISON, NJ Edison councilman Joe Coyle along with Board of Education members and school superintendent Bernard Bragen, urged state officials to move teachers and school staff higher on COVID-19 vaccine priority list.
At a press conference held Tuesday, Coyle said his office has been receiving complaints from residents on equal distribution of the vaccine. I m calling out to Washington, to Trenton and to Middlesex County that we get equal distribution of this vaccine, said Coyle.

The Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (ESCNJ), the largest educational service commission in the state, announced the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors: Dr. Gina Villani, Dr. Bernard Bragen, Jr. and Brian Glassberg.
