Authorities in Germany say they believe an Islamist extremist carried out a knife attack in the southwestern city of Mannheim that killed a young police officer and left five others injured.
The Bild newspaper reported the youths were allegedly planning to carry out Molotov cocktail and knife attacks in the name of the Islamic State group, targeting Christians and police.
Three teenagers have been detained on suspicion of planning an attack motivated by Islamist extremism. The teenagers reportedly glorified the "Islamic State" and intended to attack Christian worshippers and police.
The teenagers, aged from 15 to 16, are strongly suspected of planning an Islamist-motivated terror attack and of having committed to carrying it out , prosecutors said in a statement.
