After nearly two months of lockdown, the region s top public health doctor says Windsor-Essex meets the criteria for the less stringent red zone of restrictions, a change that could come as early as next week.
But Dr. Wajid Ahmed stressed that even though the COVID-19 situation is improving, there is still a global pandemic and the threat hasn t gone away.
Two outbreaks are active at Windsor Regional Hospital and two outbreaks are active at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.
Outbreaks are active at 11 workplaces:
Four in Leamington s agricultural sector.
One in Kingsville s agricultural sector.
One in Tecumseh s health care and social assistance sector.
Three in Windsor s manufacturing sector.
One in Tecumseh s manufacturing sector.
One in Windsor s public administration sector.
There are 12 active outbreaks at long-term care and retirement facilities:
Franklin Gardens in Leamington, with 33 resident cases and 12 staff cases.
Heron Terrace in Windsor, with two resident cases and two staff cases.
Chartwell Leamington, with two resident cases and two staff cases.
Regency Park in Windsor, with 22 resident cases and 14 staff cases.
Health unit ready to help Windsor-Essex schools reopen next week
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says it is prepared to support the return to class on Monday with nurses helping to enforce safety protocols.

The top public health doctor in Windsor and Essex County says local data supports the idea of reopening schools.
Dr. Wajid Ahmed, medical officer of health with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, said he will present some of that epidemiological data on Wednesday. Generally speaking, the indictors and everything are pointing in the right direction, which would support the recommendation . to reopen our schools for in-person learning, he said.
