Work of our National Innovation initiative. Now, another 17 years later, here we are again, once again finding ourselves at the precipice of transformational change. Today well hear stories about these changes as theyre foundational to our Flagship National commission on innovation and competitiveness frontiers. The commission cochaired by the Council Board on this stage is a multiyear effort to reimagine americas innovation potential and to chart a new path for competitiveness in the 21st century. And as this slide shows, just a little less than a year ago, with our core leadership team, we began to build this effort. And by august we had pulled together a powerful and diverse set of commissioners, nearly 60 leaders from across this country from industry, from academia, from our Labor Union Community and our National Labs. According to chb, a bicycle officer was flagged down around 2 45 in the afternoon near vista point, by a man who said he was shot in the leg by one of these darts. He felt the pain in his leg, looked down and noticed a blow down about two inches into his leg. So that would be one of the darts i just showed you was sticking in his leg. It had gone through his genes, perforated his jeans and then his skin. The officer called for an ambulance and was still taking the mans statement when a second victim came up and said she had also been shot by a blow dart. She was hit in the knee. Two victims, both walking north on the bridge, neither of them knew each other and chb does not believe they were targeted. Random acts of violence. What it appears if youre driving on the bridge, window height is right about leg height for an average adult. I dont think its a way that you woulding able to stop it, you know . I mean, its been going on since the early 80s. Renewed attention tonight on a perennial east bay problem, side show spectators take over an intersection for this dangerous stunt. Its one of several side shows in recent months. Katie, the california Highway Patrol tells me they were dispatched to two side shows last night, one was caught on camera, it lasted several minutes, included lots of cars and dozens of onlookers. The screeching tires near i880 were heard throughout the neighborhood. It was pretty loud. I heard it it was pretty loud. Oakland resident tells me these side shows happen here much too often. Its frustrating, scary, and its unfortunately, its part of our life now, so were used to it. Residents and Business Owners told me the car spin out events happen here at least twice a month. Heres video from november of last year at the exact same spot. Oakland police have tried to crack down on these side shows.
