Prince George students recognized for environmentally conscious science project SHARE ON: Westside Academy (Photo by Dione Wearmouth, mypgnow.com) Two Prince George students are the recipients of a prestigious academic award in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Michaela Stillwell and Antonia Tannert in grade 11 and 9 from Prince George Westside Academy have won the Ted Rogers Innovation award, along with $100. The two were given the award after they created their own decomposable straws, and will be participating in a virtual, Canada-wide science fair this week. The awards are part of a partnership between Youth Science Canada and Ted Rogers Community Grants which recognizes Canadian students who express an entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrate commercial potential for their projects.

Saskatchewan high school students recognized for innovation abilities in science Jonathan Guignard © Provided / Jocelyn Pon Jocelyn Pon, Grade 12 student at Centennial Collegiate in Saskatoon, was on the recipients for her project – Bioplastics: Production of Biofilms from Agricultural Products. Six high school students from Saskatchewan were recognized with $100 cash and other prizes for their innovative abilities. An initiative of Youth Science Canada, the Ted Awards program celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrates the commercial potential for the student’s science projects. Each of the students received an award over the course of the past eight weeks at their local STEM fair.
