Time froze on March 13, 2020, for Montville s The Barn Theater.
As with so many of northern New Jersey s community theaters, the cast and crew thought the closure would last perhaps a few weeks. More than a year later, its set for The Revlon Girl languishes after being used just once, on opening night. It is a constant reminder, said The Barn Theater s Scott Baird, that someday, live theater will return. They are now looking at September.
The Barn, like many of its sister companies, has adapted by doing a mix of live outdoor and virtual performances. It has undertaken some much-needed maintenance on the building. It has also been forced to think of creative ways to stay in contact with their subscribers, who number around 1,000.
