Thailand Takes A U-Turn On Weed, Spain's Health Minister On MMJ Reform And More Global Cannabis Updates

Thailand regulated the medical use of cannabis in 2018 and decriminalized marijuana in June 2022, becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to do so and third in the world after Canada and Uruguay. Since then, cannabis stores have proliferated nationwide, as a result of a lack of regulations. In the meantime Mónica García Gómez, the recently appointed Spain's Minister of Health, reaffirmed her commitment to revive the government's long-awaited efforts in regulating medical cannabis. A measure introduced this past November in the New South Wales Parliament would allow the cultivation of up to six plants for use and sharing them with friends and is supported by a majority of Australians. 'The Devil Truly Is In The Details,' Says Wisconsin Sen. Agard Of GOP-Backed 'Overly Restrictive' Marijuana Bill

A long-time cannabis advocate and lawmaker is determined to carefully assess a medical marijuana bill that Wisconsin's Republican legislators introduced on Monday. "I am thoroughly reviewing every provision of this bill because the devil truly is in the details," State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) said in a statement. "This is a serious matter the legislature will be taking up in the coming weeks." Agard, who has been tireless in her efforts to enact cannabis policy reform said the GOP-backed legislation is "overly restrictive" and that it "does not move our state in the right direction." However, Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos seems to be of the opposite opinion. He said the bill represents the maximum extent that Republicans are willing to go.
