Looking into our local plants with Botanist Bob Henry
The McDonough County Voice
A couple of weeks ago, the “Voice” printed an obituary for Robert Henry who was always called “Bob” a retired WIU biology professor who died at age 93. He was a quiet man, but he was always friendly and he was deeply committed to his work as a botanist. In the history of our region, no one else has contributed as much to understanding the plants that characterize this town, county, and region.
Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio, during 1927. He had an early interest in botany, but attending high school during World War II made him determined to serve in the military. He joined the Air Force shortly after the war ended and served in France until 1947, before going on to college.
