To the untrained eye, Boston and Shanghai are a world apart. For someone who’s lived in both, however, the two cities bear a striking resemblance.
“In a lot of ways, Boston is so similar to Shanghai,” says Nicole Lyu ’22. “We also have a river and a harbor and a lot of history. Even the personalities of the people here are similar to Shanghai. It’s funny. I think Beijing is similar to New York, and Shanghai is similar to Boston.
“When I first landed, it was weird. I had only been to California, and the airport here is much smaller than LA so I thought, ‘Am I actually going to like this place?’ But as I spent more time here, it felt like a second home.”
