CRUISE SHIP TO RETURN TO DOMINICA IN JUNE 2021 CRUISE SHIP TO RETURN TO DOMINICA IN JUNE 2021 Plans are underway as the Government of Dominica through the Ministry of Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives prepares to safely welcome cruise ships back to Dominica shores. Cruise tourism, like many other facets of the tourism sector, was severely impacted, by the COVID-19 pandemic as it brought the sector to a halt. However, as Dominica continues to roll out a comprehensive vaccination programme, Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has announced the return of cruise ships to the island. Two ships are expected to come in June, while four are scheduled for July.

Article by Social Share ROSEAU, Dominica – The chief executive officer of the Dominica Port Authority (DPA), Benoit Bardouille, says several stringent measures are being put in place to ensure that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic does not severely affect the island’s cruise ship season that opens in June. He said that the (DPA) is working to limit the contact cruise ship visitors will have with the local population. Dominica on Friday reported that it had no cases or deaths linked to the virus and that the 175 cases registered since the first case was detected in March last year, have all recovered.

The new lounge is also a way to cater to the visitors attracted to the new five star resorts on island. “We have made tremendous investments in the hotel sector in Dominica, and you would have seen that we now have 5-star resorts on island like the Kempinski, Jungle Bay and Secret Bay. Consequently, we are attracting a new niche of visitors to Dominica who would require luxurious service, and that has been a focus of the ministry to provide service to that niche market,” stated Minister for Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives, Honourable Denise Charles.
