U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta will consider up to 10 years in prison for Laura Steele of Thomasville, and government attorneys respond to her request for leniency by saying she did not just follow along in an effort on behalf of former President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Steele, a former High Point Police officer, is facing up to 10 years in prison, but in a request for reduction of that term she says she was only following along with the words of former President Trump and the directions of her brother at the U.S. Capitol in trying to overthrow the election of Donald Trump.
