The All Progressives Congress member elected to represent the Imo-North Senatorial District, Frank Ibezim, was sworn in by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday.
Ibezim replaced the late Benjamin Uwajumogu who died last year.
The Clerk of the Senate, Ibrahim El-Ladan, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance.
The bye-election to fill the vacant seat was held some months ago.
The APC won the seat but there was no clear candidate.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared APC as winner but it did not declare any specific person as the occupant of the seat.
The issue lingered between Ifeanyi Ararume and Ibezim before the Supreme Court declare Ibezim as winner.

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, has sworn in Frank Ibezim as the Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District.
Senator Frank Ibezim will be replacing the late Benjamin Uwajumogu who died in December 2019.
In February 2020 during the valedictory speeches, the late Senator was described as an icon who had an active and impactful political life.
“Late Senator Benjamin Chukwumeka Uwajumogu was a distinguished colleague who excelled in every facet of his senatorial duties, whether to his constituency or in his committees’ duties, as well as his usually articulate contributions to Senate debates,” Senator Abdullahi said.

The Senate on Tuesday administered the oath of allegiance to Senator Frank Ibezim as the senator representing Imo North Senatorial District.
The Clerk of the Senate, Ibrahim El- Ladan administered the Oaths of Office and Allegiance on the new Senator.
Speaking, President of the Senate, Senate Ahmad Lawan said that with the swearing-in of Ibezim, Imo North Senatorial District is now fully represented.
Recall that the Imo North Senatorial seat became vacant following the death of the chairman, Senate Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, All Progressives Congress, All Progressives Congress, APC, who died December 2019.
Ibezim replaced the late Benjamin Uwajumogu who died last year.

Ibezim became an elected senator through a by-election to fill the vacant seat which was held some months ago.
The controversy surrounding the emergence of Ibezim has been that the Independent National Electoral Commission declared APC as the winner but did not announce any specific person as the occupant of the seat.

Ibezim took his oath of office on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday following about three months of legal tussle with Ifeanyi Ararume, a contender for the seat.
Both of them are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The seat became vacant in December 2019 after the demise of Benjamin Uwajumogu, who was sworn in to represent the senatorial district at the commencement of the ninth senate.

The bye-election for the senatorial district was held in December 2020 but no one was named by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner owing to conflicting orders in courts of same jurisdiction.
